Marsala Florio & Co
Amaro Florio Elisir
Provenance: Catawiki, 4/29/2016
Typical Sicilian bitter from the Florio winery which originates from the ancient Florio's seafaring vocation.
For many years this Elixir was reserved for use by the Florio fleet that transported the colonial foodstuffs and spices from the Far East.
From the infusion of these spices with Sicilian citrus fruits came a bitter drink that became popular among the crew for its digestive effects.
The secret recipe includes an infusion of 13 herbs, roots, citrus peel and spices aged in wood at least 18 months.
Characteristic is its scent of bitter orange peel.
