Madeira 1878 Boal, 'M' Muito Velho
Boal, 'M' (Muito) Velho, Stencilled Bottle, Recorked in 2016 by Francisco Albuquerque
Provenance: Christies London, 3/14/2017
Tasting note: Very fne nose, softy sweet and aromatically styled, honey cake, some ethereal, wax, smoked almonds, pure and intriguing. Elegant and layered. As if dancing in your glass. Well balanced appearance, the taste is exactly as the nose promises. Elegant fne softly sweet, raisins, honey cake (great Madeiran specialty), soft acidity in harmony with the rich mouth feel. A very good Bual on the finesse. June 2016. EV.
The island of Madeira has been producing and exporting its namesake wine virtually since the Portuguese discovered it in 1419. Since then, Madeira’s location in the middle of important trade routes meant the success of its wines mirrored the worldwide geopolitical situation. The fortified wine’s fortunes have soared during times of peace, prosperity, and free trade and plummeted during conflict and international upheaval.
