Madeira 1870 Pontavice (5893)
Certified authenticity by Gilles du Pontavice, renowned French author and wine expert."This bottle comes from the cellar of a castle in Brittany. This cave has been closed for two generations, and the contents have only been found recently. Most bottles with a label are dated from 1870 to 1890. This bottle, like the ones that are similar, probably contains a mutated wine of the Madeira or Malaga type.It was impossible for us to find the source. The bottle is obviously old with the irregularities of the XIX century. The island of Madeira has been producing and exporting its namesake wine virtually since the Portuguese discovered it in 1419. Since then, Madeira’s location in the middle of important trade routes meant the success of its wines mirrored the worldwide geopolitical situation. The fortified wine’s fortunes have soared during times of peace, prosperity, and free trade and plummeted during conflict and international upheaval.

Certified authenticity by Gilles du Pontavice, renowned French author and wine expert.
