Renowned throughout the world, the production of Cognac has been regulated by its very own AOC since 1909. Only liqueurs from eaux-de-vie made from crus from the controlled appellation area of Cognac can be labelled as such. This liqueur must be distilled and aged on-site in compliance with authorised techniques: double distillation in a copper Charentais still, ageing in oak barrels for a set minimum ageing period.
A good Cognac is subjected to a complex manufacturing process. It is never made from the eau-de-vie of a single cru, but from a `marriage' of eaux-de-vie that vary in age and cru - some as old as a hundred. To establish the age of a Cognac, only the number of years spent in oak casks or barrels are taken into account. As soon as an eau-de-vie is decanted into a glass recipient, it ceases to age. The longer it is left to age, the more a Cognac gains in complexity, fragrance, aromas and taste (spiced, pepper and cinnamon flavours).
Please note that only Cognacs made exclusively from Petite and Grande Champagne (50% minimum) can use the "Fine Champagne" appellation.

David George Sandeman
The trading house was originally established in 1820 by David G. Sandeman (1757–1835), brother of George M. Sandeman (1765-1841) of the famous port shipping company Sandeman’s Port which they jointly founded in 1790.
Commercial Bank of Scotland
David G. Sandeman was an was a Scottish merchant who also was one of the founders of the Commercial Bank of Scotland (1798). He was born on June 28th, 1757 in Perth, Scotland the son of George Sandeman of Springland and Jean Duncan of Seaside. In 1835, shortly before his death, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
The birthplace of this noted trading house was Glasgow but soon after its founding, the head office of the company was relocated at Miller Street 53 in London. D. Sandeman and Son are closely allied to, both in business and ties by relationship, Sandeman, and Co., of Oporto; Sandeman, Buck & Co., of Jerez; and Sandeman Brothers, of Lisbon.
It is because of such trading companies that Glasgow beside London has such a prominent position in the wine trade of the United Kingdom.
