1939 Salento Rosso Ruffino
Salento, Old White Italian wine
Provenance: Catawiki, 4/22/2016
In 1877 two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino realized their common dream of creating great wines by founding a small winery in Pontassieve, a village just outside Florence. The reputation of Ruffino definitively established itself both nationally and internationally through the numerous awards won by Chianti Ruffino at the end of the nineteenth century: a gold medal at the Milan Exhibition of 1881, quality award at the Nice Exhibition of 1884 and another gold medal at the Antwerp Exhibition of 1885. In 1890 the Duke of Aosta, after having personally tasted the wines at the winery, appointed Ruffino as the official supplier of the royal court of the then Kingdom of Italy. In 1927 Ruffino decided to pay homage to the great honor he received by creating the first vintage of the Ducal Reserve.
